Welcome to kindergarten.......we are so excited to see you soon. Here are a few helpful hints to get ready for kindergarten:
Between now and September...
* visit the playground during off school hours to help familiarize your child with the equipment, layout, etc.
* read to your child every night.
* encourage independence....getting dressed, etc.
* provide exposure to letters & numbers (alphabet/number books and alphabet/number puzzles) - we don't expect them to know all of their letters and numbers, just become familiar with them.
* provide interaction with other children (play dates, etc.).
* during the weeks leading up to school, begin a regular routine (bed times, etc.)
* visually recognizing their first name is beneficial.
When shopping for school...
* look for a backpack or bag that is big enough to allow room for clothing, lunch bags, folder, etc.
* students like to have a pencil case with markers and crayons if possible (please label case with your child's name). These pencil cases remain in school and will be sent home at the end of the year.
* students will benefit from having comfortable shoes (sneakers) for recess and P.E.
Information will be mailed out in August with your child's classroom placement (teacher), first day of school (half the class will attend one full day and will have one day off during the first week of school) and Parent Orientation day and time.
Enjoy the summer, and we will see you again at Parent Orientation to provide you with different information such as dismissal routines, lunch and snack, quiet time, classroom expectations, etc. and other information specific to your child's classroom.
